Isaiah and Illuminating Comfort.
The seven haftarot of consolation begin with the words, “Nachamu, Nachamu Ami” (“Be comforted, be comforted My people”) from the Book of Isaiah. We look at Isaiah’s life and prophecies. Alongside the texts, we explore Jewish artistic representations from the Middle Ages to modern art.
Tisha B’Av is the most tragic day in the Jewish calendar. There are ten haftarot read during the weeks surrounding Tisha B’Av from the books of Jeremiah and Isaiah, chosen to address this significant day. In this series, we discuss the haftarah texts, the prophets’ lives and art of the haftarot.
