The Wandering Violin

Episode 3
If Jewish history had a soundtrack, there is no doubt which musical instrument would star in it – the violin. Whether it is Hasidic klezmer music, the iconic musical "Fiddler on the Roof" or the virtuoso performances of Isaac Stern and Yehudi Menuhin – no other instrument is so identifiable with the Wandering Jew. So why exactly did we choose the violin?
In this third episode of “Query” we find surprising answers to this question, on a journey that begins in Italy, passes through the experience of extensive pogroms in Eastern Europe, and arrives at the heroic story of the founding of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra.
