While Theodor Herzl received a proposal to establish a refuge for European Jewry in Uganda, the Kishinev pogrom took place in 1903. H. N. Bialik published his ‘City of Slaughter’ – an expression of protest against Jewish life in the Diaspora that would inspire an entire generation of Zionist Jews.
