Ancient Versions and Responses to 'Post-Zionism'

Even before the destruction of Jerusalem and the Temple, some Jewish authors tended to question the overriding commitment to the Land of Israel. Was this the beginning of an early version of post-Zionism, and how did those sages loyal to The Land counter its claims?
