Parashat Tetzaveh - Nadav and Avihu: Fire, Death and Disasters

Prof. Avigdor Shinan will talk to curator Daniella Shalev about the characters of Nadav and Avihu, the sons of Aaron the priest, whose lives were cut short in tragic circumstances – about the surprising biblical story, the evidence of the event, and its unclear circumstances. The conversation takes place against the background of the "How Long is Now" exhibition, and in light of the story of Nadav and Avihu, looks at the way contemporary artists around the world

deal in their work with sudden death, disaster, war, and the trauma that accompanies all these.

The Israel Museum is hosting Beit Avi Chai for a series of meetings at which there is a slightly different discussion of the weekly Torah portion. Every week, Prof. Avigdor Shinan Prof. Rabbi Dalia Marx talk to the museum's curators about the prominent figures and the topics that come up in the weekly Torah portion or the Haftarah. The meetings are filmed in the natural environment of the works and the exhibits in the museum halls. In this way, Jewish texts and their interpretations are examined against the world of images and museum exhibits, and the combinations create a new and completely unconventional point of view.
